VOLCANIC EPIC POSTPONED TO MARCH 2023
In the wake of our major event, the Whaka 100, being cancelled at late notice by Rotorua Lakes Council, we’ve made the call to postpone March's Volcanic Epic 2022 to TBC March 2023.

It’s currently unclear on how access to the Whakarewarewa Forest will be mandated for events over the next few months, and the processes that ensure certainty for us and you, the riders, during COVID-19.

Rotorua's trail network formed a key stage for the event. Until these meetings take place with the relevant parties, we’re unable to proceed with our timelines in delivering the Volcanic Epic.

We know you hadn't booked your place... yet. We're still optimistic on delivering a true MTB stage event that New Zealand deserves. We just have a few more bumps in the trail before we get there, but we hope you'll join us when entries reopen. If you an entry, we'll be in touch in the next 21 days with an update on the options available.

OPTIONS FOR RIDERS IMPACTED BY PASSES REQUIREMENT
The Government will require the Volcanic Epic to mandate valid Vaccine Passes for all participants. Participants who already have their Pass, or intend to get it in time for the event are all sorted. For participants who will not, they can withdraw with three options, which must be taken up by the 14 December 2021. These are 1) Defer to 2023 at no cost. 2) Request a 50% refund 3) Request a 95% refund with the inclusion of a medical certificate or letter confirming you have chosen not to be vaccinated. We emailed all participants on 30 November.

OPTIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL RIDERS
The NZ Government have indicated border restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers will open on 30 April 2022, a month too late for the Volcanic Epic.  As such, we emailed all international riders with two options: an automatic deferral to 2023's event on 14 December 2021, or, if riders let us know before that date, they can request a 95% refund.

UPDATE TO OUR VACCINE PASS WORDING
We've updated our wording regarding Vaccine Passes for the event to include the latest from the Government on those turning 12, include links to find out more about the Passes, and additional clarity. Note that the Government may still provide alternative ways for non-Pass holders to attend events such as negative-testing. I have read the Volcanic Epic COVID-19 Policy on the event website www.volcanicepic.co.nz/covid-19 . I understand the COVID-19 Policy and refund policy, I am happy to enter the event.

EVENT UNDER COVID-19 PROTECTION FRAMEWORK
The COVID-19 Protection Framework (aka the 'traffic light system') is the new Government approach to managing COVID-19 in the community.  The event will be able to run under Green and Orange status.

Currently, under the Framework, all participants, spectators, suppliers and staff will need a valid Vaccine Pass or relevant international confirmation of vaccine.

Depending on our local status as we enter the final approach to the event, we will make the final decision on how to proceed at 5pm 7 March 2022. We will keep you in the loop by email, so be sure you're subscribed to our updates.

How the event will operate under three levels of restrictions:
🟢 Green - Event will go ahead as planned.
🟠 Orange - Event will go ahead as planned, with changes made to how the event is run, the schedule, and gathering points.
🔴 Red - Event maybe cancelled, this depends on framework rules closer to the event
